Let us introduce you to our longtime friend, Woody Alpern~
Woody is a passionate scuba diving enthusiast whose love for the underwater world has taken him to some of the most stunning dive sites around the world. With around 44 years of diving experience, he has completed over 7,000 dives, exploring vibrant coral reefs, haunting shipwrecks, and the mesmerizing depths of underwater caves. From the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean to the rich biodiversity of the Pacific, Woody’s adventures are fueled by his endless curiosity for the ocean’s wonders.
Woody’s diving journey began in his childhood, sparked by a deep fascination with marine life. This passion led him to earn his Open Water Diver certification, and over the years, he has honed his skills to become an instructor trainer. Today, alongside his partner Gus, Woody co-founded Dive Talk Academy (divetalkacademy.com), a scuba agency dedicated to sharing their expertise and love for diving. Together, they also created the popular YouTube channel DiveTalk, where they inspire and educate divers worldwide.
We asked Woody what makes a good diver. He shared that a good diver is someone who looks out for others and remains mindful of their dive buddy. That, he said, is the essence of being a great diver.
As a proud brand ambassador for OrcaTorch, Woody relies on our dive lights to enhance his underwater explorations. OrcaTorch dive lights have become an essential part of his gear, offering reliable, high-performance lighting that ensures safety and clarity in even the darkest and most challenging environments. Whether he’s illuminating the intricate beauty of a coral reef or navigating the hidden passages of a shipwreck or cave, OrcaTorch dive lights provide the confidence and precision Woody needs to fully immerse himself in every dive.
For Woody, diving is more than a hobby—it’s a way of life. OrcaTorch’s innovative tools play a vital role in making each dive safe, enjoyable, and unforgettable. Through his ongoing adventures, Woody hopes to inspire others to cherish and protect our planet’s incredible underwater ecosystems, while honoring the privilege of being a scuba diver.
